Poetry Contest Winners


Winners of the poetry contest held in conjunction with Catawba Valley Community College's annual Black History Month Celebration were recently recognized at a ceremony held at the Ridgeview Library in Hickory.
Entries from elementary and middle school students were written using the theme of "Black History - I Dare to Dream." Winners were Kalia Her, 8th grader at River Bend Middle School; Noah Gandy, 6th grader at Clyde Campbell Elementary School; and Faith C. McLain, 5th grader at Hiddenite Elementary School.
Entries from high school and CVCC students were written using the theme of "Black History - The Individual and the Challenge." Winners were Stephanie Dugger from CVCC and Daniel Anauo, a 10th grader at St. Stephens High School. Anauo received the "Best in Show" award.
All entries received were displayed at the annual Multicultural Celebration in Honor of Black History event recently held at CVCC.
