State-of-the-Art Piano Keyboard Classroom
Catawba Valley Community College recently installed a state-of-the-art piano keyboard classroom.
The purchase was funded by the CVCC Foundation and a private donor.
"Without the support of the CVCC Foundation and its contributors, these types of special projects would not be possible given the current economic climate," said CVCC President Dr. Garrett Hinshaw.
One of the largest in the area, the Roland digital piano keyboard classroom system consists of a master instructor's keyboard that is linked to 16 student keyboards. The system can be played from the master keyboard and the music can be projected on the wall as it is played.
The system also has recording capabilities. Students can record their performance or create their own accompaniment tracks or demonstration tracks. Music tracks can be multi layered with more than 500 instrumental sounds.
"We now have instructional capabilities that are an instructor's dream," said Mike Kirby, director of CVCC's music program.
The keyboards can be linked en masse or in small couplings as designated by the instructor. The keyboards can be functionally split in half with two middle C notes, if needed.
The keyboard equipment was purchased at Doug Brady Piano in Hickory.
