CVCC Offers Job Readiness Lecture For MIS/IT Students In February

The Catawba Valley Community College School of Business, Industry and Technology will offer a lecture by The Oracle Academy “Are You Job Ready? Transforming Your Existing Assignments into a Technology Portfolio That Impresses Employers” from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 in the CVCC Auditorium.

Job competition in the technology field is fierce, and it can be especially difficult for young people with little work experience.  Designed explicitly for computer science/engineering, management information systems, and information technology majors, this lecture will teach students how to prepare for eventual employment.  At the end of this session, participants will understand:

  • How to transform some existing college assignments into a technology portfolio that impresses. Students who learn how to do this early will have a more extensive portfolio when they graduate.
  • The general skills that technology leaders like Oracle look for when hiring entry-level staff to develop, implement, and support their products.
  • How to develop an attention-grabbing resume/cover letter that should serve students well as they compete for technology jobs.

The event is free. A Question and Answer session and interaction time will follow the lecture.
