Stillwell Wins State SkillsUSA Welding Competition
Catawba Valley Community College student Bradley Stillwell of Valdese won the top state award in the welding skills competition at the SkillsUSA Conference held recently in Greensboro. He advances to the SkillsUSA National Conference in Kansas City in June.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
In the cosmetology division, Jessie Mayes Jr. of Taylorsville placed first in the hair coloring skills competition, and Chanda Stokley of Hickory placed second in the overall cosmetology category.
Cameron Ashley of Statesville placed fifth in the state in the automotive competition.
Other students attending the conference include Wilson Crawley of Morganton, automotive; Dillion Keller of Hickory, automotive; Ethan Isenhour of Taylorsville, automotive; Darrell Honeycutt of Dudley Shoals, welding; Dylan Pike of Vale and Jessy Box of Hickory, welding.
