Basic Skills Volunteers Honored

The college recently honored its volunteers who work with students in the Adult Basic Skills Education area. They were recognized recently at a luncheon held in their honor.

They help adults learn to or improve their reading, writing and math skills. English as a Second Language volunteers tutor non-native speakers in language usage, pronunciation and understanding idioms.  They practice conversation skills with these students as well as interpret American culture.

More than 20 volunteers work more than 1,000 hours each year. Mary Woods of Newton has volunteered with CVCC students for the past 17 years.
