Students Photograph Historic Hart Square

Photographic Technology students recently spent a day at Hart Square in Catawba County photographing historic structures on the property using a 4” x 5” large format view camera. View cameras are used primarily by professionals to shoot architectural. Large format cameras allow the photographer to correct converging lines and angles so that buildings do not appear to be leaning or falling backwards. The students shot with black and white film and processed the film by hand to make 11” x 14” prints. Owned by Dr. Robert Hart of Hickory, the 19th century restored village is the largest collection of original historic log buildings in the United States.
