Black History Event Feb. 28

Catawba Valley Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs invites the community to attend its Black History Month Celebration from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 28 in the CVCC Tarlton Complex (formerly CVCC Multipurpose Complex).

Entertainment begins at 6 p.m.; the program and awards begins at 7 p.m.

The fourth in the five-part Multicultural Series celebrating diversity on our campus and in our community, the Black History Month Celebration features food, entertainment and informative displays about the African American culture.
Entertainment will include the Rick Cline Trio, CVCC One Nation Dance Group and the Combined Community Choirs directed by Mr. Raymond Hollis, Jr.  The guest speaker will be Kimberly L. Boyd, 2011 recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to the African American Community Award. The Sankofa African American Museum on Wheels will be on display. Angela Jennings, curator of the exhibit, will present stories and dramatizations. Food from several area restaurants will also be served.
In addition to the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the CVCC Foundation, funding partners for the Black History Month Celebration include BB&T, Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service, City of Hickory Community Relations Council and the CVCC Student Government Association.

The celebration is sponsored by a number of CVCC groups including Circle K, Rotaract, International Club and the Minority Males on the Move.  

Donors include ASignco, Sharkfilms Production by Guillermo Ruiz, K Oriental Market and Highland Cleaners.
