Info Systems Security Club Attends San Diego Conf.

Members of Catawba Valley Community College’s Computer Information Systems Security Club recently attended the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium in San Diego.

Club president Freddie Cannon II, Vice President Kevin Bowman, Secretary Judy Price, and Michael Lancaster attended the conference which focused on security in the virtual world, encryption algorithms and security in social media.

Students also networked with representatives of Microsoft, Google, and Cisco where they learned about additional resources available to the college and the latest developments in their career field. Topics included Internet 2, a new high-speed backbone for educational use interconnecting major universities and colleges throughout the world. Students also learned about technology used by graduate students to exploit networks and electronic devices and the uses and benefits of a super computer center in San Diego for academic students and colleges. The system is used for testing algorithms or other computer lab work that would otherwise take years to process.
