Compensatory Education Program Begins in Taylorsville

Catawba Valley Community College’s Alexander Center for Education in Taylorsville will launch a daytime Compensatory Education Program beginning May 1.  

An open house is planned on Thurs., May 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in Room 118 of the CVCC-Alexander Center for Education. Light refreshments will be provided.

Compensatory Education is a program specifically designed for adults 17 years and older with developmental disabilities. Students may not have attended public schools, attended on a limited basis, or may simply need additional educational opportunities after leaving public school.

The Compensatory Education program will be offered Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the ACE in Taylorsville. It is not necessary for students to attend every day or for the entire time each day.  

The classroom is designed to be a learning lab.  Classroom instruction will focus on a student’s individual goals and will conform to the domains established by the North Carolina Community College System Compensatory Education Program of Study which include functional academics, community living, health and safety, and leisure and humanities.
