Grad Receives Dept. of Defense Scholarship

Stephanie Schumacher, a recent graduate of Catawba Valley Community College’s Cyber Crime Technology associate degree program, received an Information Assurance Scholarship from the Department of Defense.

The Department of Defense has created this full-ride scholarship to recruit and retain well-qualified personnel for work in the information assurance field, and to cultivate continuing capacity for information assurance workforce development at select institutions of higher learning throughout the United States.

The scholarship fully covers Schumacher’s tuition to complete a bachelor’s degree in information assurance at Capitol College in Laurel, Maryland. It also pays a stipend while she attends Capitol and puts her in line for full time employment with the Department of Defense upon graduation.

A Newton resident, Schumacher served as secretary of the CVCC Cyber Watch student club and was a member of Infragard, an FBI-sponsored infrastructure protection organization. She is an Access Data Certified Examiner and participated in the US Cyber Challenge Camp and the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. She graduated with high honors in May.
