Accounting Faculty Christy Land Achieves CPA Designation

Catawba Valley Community College accounting faculty member Christy Land recently passed the uniform certified public accounting exam administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
More than 130,000 candidates sit for the Uniform CPA Examination each year, but approximately 10% pass all four sections on their first attempt. Land passed on her first attempt.

“Attaining the CPA status is not a job requirement, but Christy achieved this extraordinary accomplishment because it’s the type of person she is,” said her Business Department Head Gary Muller. “She sets and achieves goals to serve as an example to her students, to show them how important it is to go beyond what’s merely expected to succeed in the world of business.”

Land joined the faculty as an adjunct accounting faculty member in 2003 and became full time the following year. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting at Gardner Webb University.

A native of Morganton, she is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association CPAs. She serves as co-advisor for the Business Leaders of Tomorrow student club and served as secretary of the CVCC Faculty Senate. Last year, she and other business faculty members guided a student team that made it to semifinal competition in the annual AICPA Accounting Competition.
Land and her husband and two children live in Morganton.
