Gov. McCrory Appoints Shillito to Trustee Board

Area business leader Bill Shillito was recently appointed to serve on Catawba Valley Community College’s board of trustees.

North Carolina Administrative Code authorizes the governor, the local county commissioners and the school board to appoint trustees to their respective community college board. Shillito was appointed by Gov. McCrory.

Shillito served in the United States Army for 22 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, a teaching post at West Point and numerous military awards, retiring with the rank of Major.

After a lengthy career with Prodelin (now General Dynamics) in Newton, he and a partner launched LightLeap, a high speed Internet access company.

Shillito served as president of the Rotary Club of Catawba Valley in 2001 and District Governor for the Western North Carolina Rotary. He was elected chair of the Catawba County Republican Party in 2009 and remains active in the party. He was recently appointed to the North Carolina Veterans Affairs Commission and serves as one of 13 State Commissioners.

He and his wife Diane Shillito have two sons and attend First United Methodist Church in Newton.
