The Health and Fitness Science associate degree is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry.
The HFS program consists of 71-72 credits (two year program). CVCC’s Career Services will work closely with second year students toward professional employment. Leverage your passion for fitness into an exciting and fulfilling occupation. Our job growth potential continues to rise as indicated by Matt Dotson of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Earn your Associate of Applied Science degree in our Health and Fitness Science program and unlock the door to a future with many exciting opportunities.
Students will be trained in exercise science and be able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals, teach specific exercise and fitness classes, and provide instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment and facilities.
Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in commercial fitness clubs, YMCA’s/YWCA’s, wellness programs in business and industry, Parks and Recreation Departments, and other organizations implementing exercise and fitness programs.
Please see the catalog for more information about the degree and certificate options for this curriculum.
The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) allows a student who earns the Associate degree with no grade lower than a "C" to be guaranteed admission to at least one of the UNC system schools as a Junior and make a smooth transition for maximum credit transfer.
Some Associate in Applied Science degrees may transfer in full or in part to a four year school. CVCC has agreements with certain schools to accept the AAS degree in a 2 + 2 arrangement (subject to change).
Important Note: As always, it is imperative that a student at CVCC should be in full conversation with the senior school before selecting and completing a program of study at CVCC.
