The first musical to come from the writing team of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Oklahoma aired on Broadways St James Theatre in 1943. Set in the Oklahoma territory, outside the town of Claremore in 1906; a cowboy, going by the name of Curly McLain, falls in love with a farm girl named Laurey Williams. Alongside this budding romance, we find cowboy Will Parker and his fiancée Ado Annie. Through the show we are swooned instantly with Curly singing “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”. But not all is well in the land of Oklahoma as we meet a Persian Peddler, Ali Hakim, who causes Ado Annie to question her love for cowboy, Will Parker. Filled with beautiful music, amazing lyrics and a story line that has touched the hearts of millions over the years, CVCC music department presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma.”
