Catawba Valley Community College and Catawba Valley Medical Center are teaming up to equip you with the knowledge and skills to be successful at planning and eating healthy. You will have the opportunity to attend five different dynamic classes lead by Renee Greene, a registered and licensed wellness dietitian. Learn how to shop and cook on a budget, make healthy choices when snacking and dining out, and how to achieve a healthy weight while preventing disease. You will receive helpful handouts, learn how to prepare healthy meals and snacks, as well as sample nutritious foods. Finally, get a grocery store tour where you will put your knowledge into practice! Sign up for one class or all five, whatever fits into your lifestyle!

In this 4-week class, learn different techniques that are easy and simple to achieve and make sweet treats that will get a real "Wow" factor with your friends and family. The student will learn to make different styles of fondant cupcake toppers, make Victorian style iced cookies, learn how to make Rosette, Hydrangea, Zinnia and other floral cupcakes and learn how to monogram cookies. No pre-requisite required.

In this 5-week course, the student will be introduced to the world of decorating using buttercream for projects ranging from cupcakes to cakes for any and every occasion. During the class, students will learn the difference in icing consistency and why it is important; how to fill and use a decorating bag, different tips and how to pipe them, how to decorate a cupcake, how to make buttercream flowers, and how to level, torte, fill and ice a cake and more!

This class introduces you to the world of royal icing....for cakes! This is different from the medium used for cookies and allows you to make decorations such as pansies, violets, and lilies in advance. Flowers and decorations dry hard and are able to be stored for later use, giving you a whole new world of options when planning your cake design and decor. The class will cover how to create six different types of flowers, how to make applique's, learn classic borders to enhance the design of your cake and learn color palettes and cake design.

This introduction to fondant class teaches you how to work with this medium properly to achieve the professional looking decorations, flowers, and covered cakes you have always wanted but were afraid to try. We tame the beast! Students will learn how to work with fondant, how to color and store fondant, understand the difference between fondant and gumpaste, how to use gumpaste, how to make flowers such as gumpaste rose and how to cover a cake with fondant.
