Early Alert supports students experiencing personal and academic issues to ensure student success.
What is Early Alert?
The Early Alert Program at CVCC is designed to support student success, both personally and academically. The goal of the program is to promptly identify issues and allow for intervention before students fall behind leading to an increase in student retention and completion. Referrals are allowed at any point during the academic semester.
The Early Alert program is intended to identify students in need of intervention and connect those students with support and access to appropriate resources and services.
Students may be referred for a number of reasons related to academic performance or personal difficulties including the following:
- Financial Issues
- Inappropriate Behavior
- Poor Attendance
- Poor Attitude, Lack of Purpose, and/or Lack of Motivation
- Poor Class Performance-Grades
- Transportation and Childcare
Please note this service is not to be used for emergency situations. In the event of an emergency, please contact campus security at extension 711 or the Crisis Intervention Team via the switchboard (ext. 0).
How to Report a Student Concern
Faculty and Staff
- Identify student(S) in need of intervention.
- Make initial contact with the student. Notify and talk to the student about the concern. If the student continues to exhibit behavior indicating a need for intervention, move to the next step.
- Document the concern using the Early Alert Form found in Blackboard. Reports should be submitted as soon as consistent concerns are identified.
- Students who recognize they have a problem that is negatively affecting their academic performance or ability to continue school may self-refer to the Early Alert program.

The Instructor and/or Staff person will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of the referral. The Early Alert Team Leader will contact students to discuss the issue(S) and refer Students to appropriate support personnel.
