covid-19 Protocol Update
We look forward to the Spring 2022 semester as we continue our mission to best serve our students, employees, and community. Our priority has always been your safety, and it will continue to be our top priority. We are monitoring the COVID Omicron variant in our region and will adjust our protocols as necessary for the health and safety of our faculty, staff, and students. With counsel from our local healthcare providers and from college leadership, the below CVCC COVID protocols are amended, effective immediately, to align with the latest CDC recommendations.
NEW Protocol Regarding COVID Exposure and COVID Positive Test:
- People that are exposed to COVID who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second dose (or more than two months out after the J&J vaccine AND NOT yet boosted) should quarantine for five days, followed by strict mask use for another five days.
- Individuals who have received the booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure but should wear a mask 10 days after an exposure.
- The best practice is to get a COVID test five days after the exposure.
- If an individual tests positive for COVID regardless of vaccination status, they should stay home five days, then if they are symptom free, they may leave quarantine and continue to wear a mask for the next five days.
CONTINUED CVCC COVID Exposure and COVID Positive Test Protocols:
- If you have been tested for COVID-19 by a healthcare professional and received a positive diagnosis, you should immediately report the diagnosis to your direct supervisor and dean (if you are an employee) or instructor (if you are a student) by completing this COVID reporting form. The CDC guidelines recommend isolating yourself from all other people, including those in your household.
- Regardless of vaccination status, facemasks or face coverings must be worn by all individuals inside campus buildings when in the presence of others and in public settings where other social distancing measures are challenging to maintain (e.g., shared workspaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, etc.). We will relieve this requirement as soon as trends change trajectory.
- Employees and students may seek reasonable accommodations from face-covering requirements based on disabilities that impair or prevent wearing face coverings or for any other lawful reason. Employees may request an exception by contacting the Human Resources Office. Students may request an exemption through the Office of Disabilities by contacting Kim Settlemyre at accommodation@cvcc.edu or ksettlemyre411@cvcc.edu. These requests and requests by students shall be considered under the College’s standard reasonable accommodation process.
- A mask or face covering is not required while working alone in a confined on-campus office space.
- All employees are expected to work from their on-campus workstations unless experiencing symptoms, at which time they should communicate with their direct supervisor and consult with their healthcare provider.
- All on-campus meetings with groups larger than 30 must receive approval from the Office of the President and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Third-party and outside group meetings will be monitored on a case-by-case basis by Dr. Ken Elliott.
- Masks and hand-sanitizing stations will be available at all key entrance locations on campus.
- Vaccination clinics and vaccination awareness campaigns will be conducted for CVCC employees and students throughout the semester.
We strongly recommend that all students and employees be vaccinated to help prevent the spread of COVID.
Thank you for your continued support and for being #RedHawkReady. We look forward to a happy and healthy 2022 spring semester.

CVCC COVID-19 UPDATE
New COVID Protocols for all CVCC Campuses and Facilities......Effective Wednesday, August 11, 2021
We look forward to your return to the CVCC campus for the Fall 2021 semester as we continue our mission to best serve our students, employees, and community. From the beginning of this pandemic, our priority has been your safety, and it will continue to be our top priority.
We are monitoring the COVID Delta Variant situation in our region on a continual basis and will adjust our protocols as necessary for the health and safety of all of our faculty, staff and students. With counsel from our local healthcare providers and college leadership and the significant increase in positive COVID Delta Variant cases in our region, we have decided to amend the current COVID protocol as follows, effective Wednesday, August 11:
- Regardless of vaccination status, facemasks or face coverings must be worn by all individuals inside campus buildings when in the presence of others and in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., common workspaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, etc.). We will relieve this requirement as soon as trends change trajectory.
- Employees and students may seek reasonable accommodations from face covering requirements on the basis of disabilities that impair or prevent wearing face coverings or for any other lawful reason. Employees may request an exception by contacting the Human Resources Office. These requests and requests by students shall be considered under the College’s standard reasonable accommodation process.
- A mask or face covering is not required while working alone in a confined on-campus office space.
- All employees are expected to work from their on-campus workstations unless experiencing symptoms at which time they should communicate with their direct supervisor and consult with their healthcare provider.
- All on-campus meetings with groups larger than 30 must receive approval from the Office of the President and will be assessed on a case by case basis.
- On-campus meetings for groups less than 30 people can meet in person but may allow employees the option to attend virtually from their on-campus workstation on a case-by-case basis with their supervisor’s approval. Social distancing should remain a priority in these situations.
- Third-party and outside group meetings will be monitored on a case-by-case basis by Dr. Ken Elliott.
- Masks and hand-sanitizing stations will be available at all key entrance locations on campus.
- Vaccination clinics and vaccination awareness campaigns will be conducted throughout the year for CVCC employees and students.
- All CVCC employees and students must adhere to the COVID Exposure and COVID Positive Test protocols below.
CVCC COVID Exposure and COVID Positive Test Protocols:
- In-line with CVCC COVID protocols, if you have been fully vaccinated and have been exposed to an individual testing positive for COVID-19, you are not required to quarantine from campus, unless you start experiencing symptoms, or if you test positive for COVID.
- Per CDC recommendations, individuals who are fully vaccinated and who have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don't have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.
- If you have not been vaccinated and have been exposed to an individual testing positive for COVID-19, per CVCC COVID protocols, you are required to quarantine for a period of 14 days from your date of exposure. Per CDC recommendations, if unvaccinated, you should also get tested 3-5 days after your exposure, even if you don't have symptoms, stay away from people you live with, especially people that are in higher risk for getting very sick from COVID, and wear a mask indoors and in public for 14 days following exposure or until your test result is negative.
- If you have been tested for COVID-19 by a healthcare professional and received a positive diagnosis, you should immediately report the diagnosis to your direct supervisor and dean (if you are an employee) or instructor (if you are a student). The CDC guidelines recommend that you isolate yourself from all other people, including those in your household.
- If you have been tested for COVID-19 by a healthcare professional and received a positive diagnosis, you are required to quarantine for 10 days following your diagnosis and healthcare provider's directions, after which you may return to campus as long as you do not have any symptoms.
- Teleworking will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, depending on job duties and requirements. If you have to quarantine and are unable to telework due to illness or because your job duties/requirements are not conducive to a teleworking situation, you will be required to utilize sick leave during the quarantine period.
At this time, we will not be checking vaccination records of individuals and we ask that employees refrain from asking other employees or students about their vaccination status due to HIPPA regulations. We will continue to require faculty and staff reporting of positive tests or exposure to their supervisors and Julie Byrd in Human Resources and Clyde Deal in Safety and Security.
We will continue to monitor this situation and will follow any Executive Orders from the Office of the Governor as needed and will rely on the guidance of our local healthcare providers to make amendments when necessary.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to move through this difficult situation for all of us. These decisions are based on our ability to remain operational without jeopardizing the health of our stakeholders.

CVCC COVID-19 UPDATE
Monday, August 2 New CVCC Operational COVID Protocols
We are continuing to monitor the COVID Delta Variant situation in our region and communicating with our local health providers on a regular basis. Beginning Monday, August 2, 2021, we will discontinue the temperature screening requirements. All buildings will be opened for access on a regular schedule as they were accessible Pre-Pandemic. We will continue to deep clean all high traffic areas. We strongly encourage that all unvaccinated individuals wear masks while inside buildings unless you are alone at your workstation. All fully vaccinated individuals may access the campus and may determine if they choose to wear a mask or not. At this time, we will not be checking vaccination records of individuals unless they have been exposed or have tested positive for COVID and we ask that employees refrain from asking other employees or students about their vaccination status. We expect everyone coming onto the campus to take into consideration their safety and the safety of others as it relates to COVID-19 Delta.
We will continue to require faculty and staff reporting of positive tests or exposure to their supervisors and Julie Byrd in Human Resources and Clyde Deal in Safety and Security. All students are required to report a positive test or exposure to their respective faculty member who will then report to their supervisor, HR, and Safety and Security. Unvaccinated individuals that are exposed to an individual that has tested positive will be required to quarantine for 14 days and all individuals, regardless of their vaccination status, who receive a positive test are required to quarantine for 10 days as recommended by the CDC. REGARDLESS OF YOUR VACCINATION STATUS, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ANY SYMPTOMS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARANCE FROM YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER. If you have any issues with the guidelines above, please contact your supervisor for an evaluation of your situation. We are working with our local health care providers to establish vaccine clinics on campus at the beginning of Fall Semester for any employee or student that wants the vaccination.
This Pandemic is not over and we will monitor the situation in our area on a daily basis. However, it is important for our students and our college to get back engaged on campus. If we need to shift back to more stringent protocols, we are prepared to do so. We will also follow any Executive Orders from the Office of the Governor as needed and rely on the guidance of our local healthcare providers as we move into the Fall Semester. Our priority has been your safety from the beginning of this pandemic and it will continue to be our priority as we work together to continue our mission. Please contact Roger Irvin in Human Resources or Clyde Deal in Safety and Security if you have any questions related to this matter. Thank you for your time and assistance with our new protocols effective Monday, August 2, 2021.

CVCC COVID-19 Update, 2020
Catawba Valley Community College continues to operate under the Executive Orders of the Governor of North Carolina. As North Carolina has entered into Phase I of re-opening the state, our college will be working with individuals in order to finish any remaining courses that had hands-on or clinical requirements that could not be completed under the original Executive Order that expired on May 8, 2020.
Most employees will continue to telework and we are in the process of Summer Registration on-line (See registration and admission information below). At this point, all summer courses will remain in an on-line format and access to campus will be limited to only those individuals designated above. Catawba Valley Community College is focused on the safety of our students and our employees as we slowly move into Phase I of a Gradual Re-Entry Process.
On Monday, May 18, 2020, the college will begin the Gradual Re-Entry Process, inviting small numbers of identified students and faculty back to campus for the sole purpose of completing the Spring Semester.
Strict entry protocols have been established for the Gradual Re-Entry Process, and all employees and students must adhere to the protocols or they will not be allowed to enter campus. Extensive sanitizing and cleaning protocols are in place to assure that we create an environment that is safe for the completion of courses and programs that were not completed during the regular Spring Semester. Any class meetings must be less than 10 people (including faculty/staff) and a temperature and health screening for students and employees is required for each campus visit. We encourage employees and students to bring their own masks or face coverings. If you do not have access to a mask or face covering, you will be issued one prior to entering the checkpoints
Students having questions or concerns regarding a safe return to campus should contact his/her instructor(s) for the classes in question.
Employees having questions or concerns regarding a safe return to campus should contact his/her respective supervisors for guidance.
The protocols for re-entry are included in the link below. We will keep classes small (under 10), we will require entry screening (temperature check and standard pandemic questioning), and we will require masks or face coverings for ALL individuals coming onto campus as invited. Access to certain designated areas and foot traffic will be restricted and guidance will be provided on moving in and out of the facilities.
