A: The 2020 Commencement ceremonies originally scheduled for May 8 and May 9, 2020, have been postponed. Plans are to hold these ceremonies on August 1, 2020. Location to be announced. The Campus Store will receive caps and gowns in early July.
Q: Is Thursday, March 26, still a “Flip Day”?
A: Yes, Thursday, March 26 is a flip day. For classes meeting online in a synchronous format, Monday classes are scheduled for Thursday, March 26.
Q: Are my classes canceled?
A: All courses, regardless of delivery method, are canceled for the week of March 16-22. Please continue to monitor CVCC announcements throughout the week.
Q: Will classes return to normal schedule next week?
A: Due to the progressive nature of COVID-19, we will be moving forward on a week-to-week basis. The goal is to transition as soon as possible without causing unnecessary risk to students, faculty, and staff. This week allows time to transition your classes to online or an alternative format. Given the unpredictability of COVID-19, develop plans for a short-term and long-term closure. Contact all of your students and assess their ability to access online instruction.
Q: What about online classes?
A: Online classes are also canceled this week. Additionally, many seated classes will need to be moved to an online format. Determine how to continue instruction for a short-term or long-term closing.
Q: What about seated classes?
A: Many seated classes are being moved, where possible, to an online or alternate format. However, your class may not be suitable for an online format due to the hands-on nature of the course. The semester will be extended so you will have time to provide the required instruction. Please communicate with your director, department head, or dean
Q: I teach CCP classes at the high school. Should I plan on returning to the high school or proceed to transition the course to an online format also?
A: All courses, regardless of delivery method, are canceled for the week of March 16-22. We are in contact with our high school partners as we develop a plan to resume instruction. However, this may change as we move forward. Please monitor communications from CVCC.
Q: Assess your students’ access to the internet at home?
A: All students must contact you via CVCC email if they are unable to access online courses. The FTC has announced that some internet providers are providing free or low-cost internet to K-12, college, and university students in certain areas. For example, Charter/Spectrum is offering two months of free internet to college students who don’t have it. There is a toll free number to call. Comcast is doing the same for low-income families. Please ask your students to check with the internet provider in their area.
Q: What about clinicals and Work-Based Learning (WBL)?
A: Clinicals, internships, apprenticeships, and WBL assignments will continue this week as scheduled unless the work site restricts access.
Q: What about Continuing Education and Community Classes?
A: Continuing Education and Community classes are also canceled this week. This includes on-campus and off-campus classes. These instances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please communicate clear direction to the public about any changes to course offerings. Correctional facilities classes are also canceled.
Q: Are services available, such as the Learning Assistance Center (LAC) open?
A: Learning Assistance Center is closed – E-Help is available and can be found in the links below.

Q: How do I communicate with my students?
A: Encourage your students to contact you though CVCC email. If you are currently enrolled in online or hybrid courses, you may prefer being contacted through Blackboard (BB).
Q: Are the Dental Clinic and/or the Cosmetology Center open?
A: The Dental Clinic and the Cosmetology Center will suspend operations for the week of March 16-22.
Q: Can I come to campus to collect items that I may need or to work on my courses?
A: Yes. Our goal is to limit face-to-face interactions. This week will provide days to plan your instructional strategy for short-term or long-term closures. Access the campus as needed. Blackboard training sessions are also available through Wednesday.
Please continue to monitor CVCC communications.
During this time, please take care of yourself and your families. We will be communicating with you on a regular basis, so please check your email and website frequently.
Q: Will students be able to continue working in those online courses during this week ahead, or will they lose access to those courses for this week?
A: Students will not lose access to their Blackboard courses. Any assignments or tests due this week should be modified, and students should not be required to submit work this week (3/16-3/20).
Q: What about for seated courses that already have assignments available on Blackboard?
A: These assignments can remain, but due dates should be adjusted, and students should not be penalized or be held responsible for any coursework this week.
Q: Will our cohort classes return to seated sections or finish the year online?
A: At this time the intent is that all (seated and hybrid courses) would return to their original delivery method once it is deemed safe to do so. However, instructors should plan short-term and long-term plans for continuity. All classes, including cohort courses, should be prepared for online delivery beginning March 23. Faculty should check email often to receive direction from their supervisor regarding instructional delivery methods. Cohort faculty will be notified via email regarding course delivery information as it becomes available. Any questions regarding cohort classes should be directed to Brenda Lewis at blewis@cvcc.edu.
Q: Can my supervisor require department faculty members to attend in-person/face-to-face meetings this week?
A: All full-time faculty are required to report to campus on Monday , March 16, if possible. Faculty and staff members are required to be in communication with their supervisor regarding meeting required work duties during this time.
Q: How will student attendance be determined? Will we still be entering student attendance in WebAdvisor?
A: Web attendance for canceled classes next week is currently being discussed and C’s may be required. In the comment box add a note that the class time will be made-up during the semester extension. Beginning March 23, instructors will not need to enter C’s in WebAdvisor for canceled classes. They may use assignment dates as ways to take attendance. For instance, if an assignment were due on March 25, 2020, and a student failed to complete that assignment online, then the instructor could mark the student absent for that date. Otherwise, the student is considered present.
Q: Will WP dates stay the same as they currently are, or will they be changed?
Q: How will students withdraw from courses if they are not allowed on campus?
A: Most students always have the opportunity to withdraw from courses via email at advising@cvcc.edu. Please see CVCC Policy 2.21 for more details on this process. For classes that end after March 15, 2020, the WP date will be the 80% point. However, CCP students are required to go through their high school counselor for withdrawing from a course and should not be directed to the advising center email address. CCP students with questions regarding withdrawal should be directed to email their high school counselor and the ccp@cvcc.edu email address for further questions.
Q: Will there be a change in the overall calendar? If so, will there be a new calendar published?
A: This has not been determined at this time.
Q: Will CVCC offer Zoom for Education (which has more features than the free version)?
A: CVCC has purchased WebEx for video conferencing. Faculty have access to this software. Training has been scheduled. Please see page 4 of the EdTech live document for more information on how to use and install WebEx.
Q: What will be the availability of campus to faculty and staff over the weeks ahead while online instruction occurs?
A: CVCC is open until further notice. CVCC faculty and staff will have access to the campus during the week of March 16-20 to prepare coursework and access offices. Campus access is being assessed on a day to day basis, so please monitor your email for communication regarding campus access.
