Cynthia Goelling, of Hickory
CVCC College Transfer Student
Wake Forest University Graduate
Cynthia Goelling was one of Catawba Valley Community College’s first college transfer students. She was 30 years old and married with children. “I had no job skills, I had my GED,” explained Cynthia. “At that point in my life, you’ve got to understand that I was very, very frightened that I wasn’t going to succeed. I was back in school after not being very successful in high school. I had a lot of responsibility and a lot of people close to me that were very skeptical about my ability to succeed.”
“But I toughed it out, and the CVCC college transfer program prepared me for going to a four-year college much more than I ever thought it would. CVCC opened a lot of doors for me and gave me the confidence and courage to keep opening more.”
Goelling completed her bachelor’s degree, then went to law school and passed the Bar Exam. “Now, I am a mother of three, a grandmother of one, a member of the Catawba County Bar, a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law and a graduate of CVCC. I am very proud to have gone there.” I am CVCC.
