Early Alert - Referral Process
Early Alert referrals are frequently initiated by faculty members but may be submitted by anyone with concerns.
At-Risk Characteristics
At-Risk Characteristics include:
- Low High School Grades
- 1st Generation College Student
- Low Socio-Economic Background
- Low Level Educational Aspiration or Involvement
- Late Applicant or Registrant
- Physical or Learning Disability
- ESL
- GED Graduate
- Uncertainty about Program of Study or Reason for Attending College
- Non-Continuous Attendance Pattern
- Employed Full Time while enrolled
- Single Parent
- Lack of Participation in College Extracurricular Activities
- Low 1st-Year GPA
- Excessive Class Absences
Early Alert Referral Process
Student has excessive absences and or academic performance issues
Faculty Notification to Student:
- Problem improves or disappears: No further action necessary
- Problem persists or worsens:
Conference with Student to Discuss Early Alert Team Referral
- Enter as Task under Early Alert Committee
- Complete Referral form on R&R Portal
EA Chairperson sends referral to Renee Neal, EA Team Leader
- Renee Neal sends a referral to the appropriate team member. Reasons to submit an Early Alert include: Academic Performance, Attendance, Behavior (for emergencies, call Switchboard), Personal Issues, Medical Conditions, Financial issues, Lack of Motivation, Lack of Readiness, Lack of Direction
