Students applying for degree, diploma, and certificate programs may be required to complete certain placement tests. Test results are used by academic advisors to place students in appropriate courses and thereby maximize their opportunities for success. While placement test scores are not used for determining admission to the college, they may be required to satisfy certain program of study requirements.
CVCC utilizes the NCDAP test (NC Diagnostic and Placement) an ACCUPLACER test to assess Reading, English and Math skills.
Students who graduated from high school within the past 5 years may be eligible for a placement test waiver using the Multiple Measures for Placement.
Fundamental computer skills are evaluated using the OPAC test.
Please review the "CVCC Placement Testing for NCDAP/ACCUPLACER" handout given to the student during the admissions process for more details regarding the placement tests.
New Students: See a Student Services Admissions Counselor to schedule an appointment for the placement test. This will ensure that you take the appropriate parts of the NCDAP and/or OPAC tests for your particular educational goals while attending CVCC.
Placement testing is at no cost for CVCC applicants. Non-CVCC students taking the placement test will be charged a $25 proctoring fee. Contact the Testing Center directly at 828-327-7000 Ext. 4048 to schedule an appointment.
