Located in Hickory, North Carolina, Catawba Valley Community College was founded in 1960. The main campus is maintained at 2550 Highway 70, SE, Hickory. CVCC's Faculty Senate was formed in 1992 as a way for faculty to voice concerns, share ideas with peers, and continue excellence in teaching.

The Faculty Senate is dedicated to promoting Faculty participation in decision making and to providing an orderly process for improving communications and mutual understanding among administration, faculty, and students. Recognizing that the Trustees and President must exercise the final, legal responsibility for decision making and the determination of college policy, the Faculty, nevertheless, has a vital responsibility to provide leadership in planning, implementing, and controlling learning activities for which the college exists. The Faculty also shares concern and responsibility for those aspects of the environment which have an effect on the learning process.
