Meetings of the Membership
Section I: Regular Meetings
Regular meetings of the Faculty Senate shall be scheduled at least once each month at a
time and place designated by the Executive Board. Notice of such regular meeting shall be distributed at
least five (5) working days prior to the meeting.
Section II: Special Meetings
- Special meetings of the membership for any purpose, unless otherwise prescribed by this Constitution,
may be called by the Senate President or the Executive Board. The notice of such special meeting shall be
distributed at least five (5) working days prior to the meeting, and such notice shall set forth the
purpose of the called meeting.
- Any member of the Faculty Senate who desires a special meeting of the membership shall appear before
the Executive Board at its regular meeting and request the Board to call such special meeting. Thereafter,
if the special meeting is not called within five (5) working days, any member who desires a special
meeting shall present to the Senate President a petition setting forth the reason for calling the special
meeting. Such a petition stating the business which shall come before the special meeting shall be signed
by at least three (3) Senators. Thereafter, the Senate President shall cause a special meeting of the
membership to be called in not less than five (5) nor more than ten (10) working days after the said
petition is presented to him.
- At any special meeting of the membership called as above set forth, the only business which may be
properly brought before the said special meeting shall be that set forth in the notice as specified in
subsection (A) or that contained in the petition as specified in subsection (B).
Section III: Executive Session
Executive sessions may be called at the discretion of the Senate President during regular
or special meetings of the Faculty Senate.
Section IV: Attendance
- Should a Senator be unable to attend a scheduled Senate meeting, he may appoint another Faculty
member from his division to represent him. For voting purposes, said substitute shall possess a written
proxy from the Senator.
- Attendance at executive sessions shall be restricted to Senate members and designated substitutes.
- When appropriate, the Faculty Senate may invite other College employees to a Senate or Faculty
meeting. Conversely, any College employee may request and be granted permission to appear at a Senate or
Faculty meeting.
Rules of Order
Section I: Voting
- No vote shall be taken at any Senate meeting without a quorum of members present. A quorum consists
of a simple majority of the membership of the Faculty Senate.
- A motion will carry with a simple majority vote excepting where otherwise noted in this
Constitution.
- Voting may be conducted by either a show of hands or by a secret ballot, whichever is deemed
appropriate by the Senate President.
- Each Senator carries one vote which may be exercised via written proxy. The Senate President votes
only in the event of a tie vote.
- Any Constitution amendment shall require a 75 percent vote of the Faculty.
- Only one member shall be entitled to the floor at any given time.
- Members desiring the privilege of the floor shall address the Chair.
- No member shall be allowed to speak until properly recognized by the Chair.
- No question can come before the Senate unless properly moved and seconded and declared open to
discussion.
Section II: Order of Business
The order of business at regular meetings of the Faculty Senate shall be as follows:
- Call to Order by President
- Roll Call by Secretary-Treasurer
- Reading of Minutes by Secretary-Treasurer
- Treasurer's Report by Secretary-Treasurer
- Reports by Committees
- Old Business
- New Business
- Adjournment
