March 26, 2007

Team Members in Attendance:  Garrett Hinshaw, Coy Hudson, Wayne Wooten, Linda Lutz, Ron Valentini, Bill Dulin, Christine Holt, Deborah Myatt, and Charles White

Guest: Brian Morris and Yer Yang

Agenda Items and Actions Taken:

  1. Presentation of Online Objectives System - Charles and Yer made a preliminary presentation of the new Online Objectives System. The system will allow personnel to select particular Directions, Initiatives, and Objectives before entering annual objectives.  Drop down menus will allow easy selection of Directions, Initiatives, and Objectives. The Personnel, Equipment, and Other Funds items will be changed to allow users to request any or all of these for one particular objective. A special box will be provided to allow more than one Direction, Initiative and Objective to be linked with the same funds request.  Supervisors will determine which annual objective(s) to submit to the respective vice-presidents for inclusion into the total number of objectives to be reviewed by the president and his Cabinet.  Objectives not forwarded for this consideration may remain in the user’s database. Charles and Yer will prepare the revisions suggested today and have a final presentation ready for the April 17 meeting.

  2. Changes in Critical Success Factors - Coy explained a report of the proposed changes in the Critical Success Factors presented at the winter meeting of CCPRO.  This information is not available for general consumption until the North Carolina General Assembly makes a final decision. Several of the current factors will be terminated while some will have slight modifications.    


  3. Strategic Planning - The Next Step - Dr. Hinshaw distributed a preliminary set of Strategic Directions and requested the IELC to review the list and provide feedback to him by April 5, 2007.


  4. Accountability Benchmarks/Standards of Excellence - The IELC was reminded that the current Institutional Effectiveness Plan calls for a review of the Accountability Benchmarks in the spring, but since the Benchmarks will mutate into the Standards of Excellence the Strategic Directions, Initiatives, and Objectives will developed next by May 30, thus allowing the Standards of Excellence to then be finalized in June.


  5. Faculty/Staff/Administration Survey - Coy mentioned there was some concern about not making the survey comments and response data about particular administrators made available to all College personnel. A total of the responses to each question on individual administrators will combined for all administrators and entered in the master survey report as “Administration,” to be posted on the IE, Research and Planning web pages. Each administrator will receive his/her particular data report and comments as well as the departmental comments. The president will receive a full report on all vice-presidents and deans. The survey response data and comments for each administrator will be forwarded to the Personnel Office.


  6. IE Conference - Coy provided pertinent information regarding a July conference in Charlotte focusing on “Best Practices in Institutional Effectiveness.”


  7. Other Business - Coy mentioned that with the date for the College reorganization set for June 1 it will be necessary to review the membership of the IELC.


  8. Reminder of Next Meeting - The next IELC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned.
