Agenda Items and Actions Taken

1. Strategic Planning – Dr. Hinshaw reported that the Strategic Planning Committees have been organized and work has begun on developing the Strategic Objectives. The committees represent a wide range of participation throughout the campus community.  Dr Hinshaw is pleased with the progress and encouraged the vice presidents to allow flexibility and creativity in developing objectives. The deadline for submitting the Strategic Objectives is July 15, 2007. Charles reminded the Council of the need to soon develop the new Standards of Excellence which will supplant the Institutional Benchmarks.  Charles will review the current Institutional Benchmarks to determine which ones might apply as Standards of Excellence with the new Strategic Plan Directions. 

At this point Brian Morris, who had been attending the meetings as a requirement for an advanced degree, addressed the Council to express appreciation for our time and support during this semester.
 

2. Approval of SPC Meeting Dates, Flowcharts  – Prior to the meeting Coy e-mailed the necessary documents requiring approval. The Council approved the 2007-2008 meeting dates as presented. After several changes the Council approved the listing of the SPC members and their organizational responsibilities.  Before final approval the Council made a few changes in the Strategic Planning Five-Year Cycle and the Strategic Plan Annual Objective Flowchart.  The final document, the Improvement Plan Flowchart, was modified and then approved. These documents will be posted on the Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning web pages.

3. Critical Success Factors 2007 –  Coy reviewed the 2007 Critical Success Factors Report with the Council.  CVCC met ten of the twelve Performance Indicators.  The Passing Rates on Licensure/Certifications Exams for First-Time Test Takers was not met.  The 60% pass rate on Real Estate Sales Exam   prevented CVCC from meeting this indicator.  Dr. Hinshaw stated that we will review the Real Estate issue to determine the best course of action.  Data was not available for the Success Rate of Developmental Students in Subsequent College-Level Courses.

4. SPC Improvement Plan –This agenda item was included in the earlier discussion of how to best articulate improvement plans throughout the campus community.
   

5. Online Objective System – Charles reported that the system continues to be field tested. Final revisions to the system have been postponed until Yer returns from medical leave. Charles expects the system to be ready when needed.
   

6. APR/MESS – Charles provided an update on the status of the yearly report and mentioned several concerns the Council should address in the future.

7. Reminder of Next Meeting – The next SPC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. It is possible that the Council will be asked to meet from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to review the Strategic Plan Objectives. The Council will be notified in advance if the meeting is rescheduled for this new time. The meeting was adjourned.
