Introduction
Catawba Valley Community College is committed to ongoing professional development
activities for the faculty and staff. An Annual Staff Development Plan, identifying an individual's
projected training needs for the coming academic calendar year, is completed by all full-time personnel.
In an effort to inform faculty and staff of available training opportunities to accommodate these needs, a
Professional Development Committee has been established to assimilate a listing of opportunities both within
the college and off campus. The committee is comprised of two permanent members, two faculty, two
professional staff, and two support staff.
The primary responsibilities of this committee are to provide professional development opportunities for
all employees; assess training/development needs of all employees; respond to staff development needs of
specialized groups; identify and utilize expertise of specific individuals employed by CVCC; identify and
provide training needs that result from the rapidly changing technological environment; communicate staff
development opportunities from other sources; act as a resource for groups within CVCC that need assistance
in identifying, planning, and implementing group specific activities; and to monitor and review the
professional development planning process, including documentation of improvements that result from staff
development.
In an effort to inform faculty and staff of forthcoming training events, the committee collects training
opportunities which are subsequently posted on this web site. The committee chose to use this format
to communicate to faculty and staff available training options so that they can be easily and continually
updated. Please check the listing often.
Some funds are available to assist with costs associated with training. One source
of funding is through the State Community College System's Tier A Program. The Tier A Application
(Request) is located on the J drive - Public/forms/TierA.doc. It is a tab-through, fill-in form.
Other potential funding sources include, but are not limited to state, grant, and special funds. You
may contact your immediate supervisor to discuss availability of funds within your department.
If you need more information about Tier A, about a seminar or workshop listed, or if you
know of an event which is not listed, contact Angie Rudd.
Please provide the date and name of the workshop(s) or seminar(s) in which you are interested and a
copy of the printed material(s) will be forwarded to you.
