CVCC Professional Staff Association
June 5, 2003

Members Present: Donna Trado, Sandie Loyer, Marian Baer, Louise Garrison, Karen Less, Theresa Ray, Anne Williams, Sallie Neville-Merritt,   Connie Frye,  and Wilbur
.  The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by President Donna Trado. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. A reminder was given of the minutes being available on the PSA website.

Committee Reports: Connie Frye presented the Treasurer's report. John Beall is retiring as of July 2003 and Connie Frye was selected to fulfill his duties through September 2003 when new officers are elected.

A new brochure was distributed to assist recruitment.  Any suggestions or changes are to be forwarded to Donna Trado.

Louise Garrison was presented with a plaque for the Professional Staff Association Professional.  Her nomination will be sent to the state level for the 2002 NC Community College System Staff Award. CVCC presented a monetary award of a $500.00 check.

Wanda Barker and Donna Trado are meeting next week to write a proposal to send to the CVCC Foundation for future funding regarding PSA Professionals for monetary funding for the staff awards.  CVCC has agreed to purchase plaques to recognize annual PSA award winners.

Donna Trado sent a "thank you" letter to CVCC officials involved in the decision to award CVCC employees with a one time $1,000.00 bonus, 10 days of holidays, and pay increase.

CVCC Board of Trustees Presentation: PSA will continue encouraging administration to seek options to provide staff eligibility for performance pay. 

2002-2003 Priorities: As recommended at last meeting, updated copies of priorities were distributed and accepted.  To view these, go to the website.

In an effort to align CVCC holiday schedule with that of state employees, CVCC employees will be granted January 2, 2004 as a new additional holiday.

In an effort to continue building Faculty Senate, Donna Trado will meet with Wanda Barker next week and plans to establish a date for the three organizational presidents to meet and identify common goals.

At the next Administration Council meeting, Donna Trado will request that we reinstate the mentor program and offer involvement and support from PSA members.

Executive Council has recommended a PSA member support system to respond to members in time of need with cards.  Donna Trado will purchase a package of cards to use and Vice President Anne Williams will represent the Member Support Committee.  Members are asked to email information regarding death of spouse, parent, sibling, or child, or either illnesses or retirement announcements to Anne in order to respond with a card.

Nomination Committee members Anne Williams, Sallie Neville Merritt, and Marian Baer ask for members to contact them to place nominations for the 2003-2004 elections.

Next Meeting: The next PSA meeting is scheduled on September 23, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. on the CVCC Main Campus in the Instructional Conference room.
