Personnel Conference Room
Members Present: Anne Williams, Connie Frye, Karen Less, Donna Trado, Doug Allen, Sue Asp, Marian Baer, Teresa Ray, Sandie Loyer, Joyce Watson, Wanda Horvath, Ashley King and Judy Barkley.
The meeting was called to order at 2:32 p.m. by President Anne Williams.
Secretary/Treasurer Reports: Copies of the minutes from the May 14th, 2003 general meeting were distributed and approved. The Treasurer's report was presented, with copies of paying members distributed and approved. The 2004-2005 membership dues are now being accepted for any member wishing to submit money. PSA encourages all members to pay dues and become active. The PSA membership money is used for stationary, stamps, plaques, cards, and occasional refreshments. It is being considered to also use the money for "goody" bags or gifts for the mentoring program to distribute to new members.
Nominating Committee
New PSA officers will take office in October for the 2004-2005 year. In order to continue the productivity of PSA, the following have agreed to serve on the Nominating Committee: Anne Williams, Donna Trado, and Connie Frye. They will meet September 10th, 2004 to begin the nominating process. Any suggestions for candidates will be welcomed. Submit your suggestions to the nominating committee for the new year.
Staff Member of the Year Award
President Anne did not receive any responses for nominations for Staff Member of the Year. She will be sending another email requesting a short paragraph for a nominated person and all Professional Staff members are encouraged to respond. We do not want to leave the $500.00 monetary award and plaque not awarded by a noteworthy person. There will be one nominee selected from CVCC to be submitted. This year the nominee will be selected from a Support Staff individual. Candidate names will be submitted by the nominating committee after names are submitted. Once nominated, Mary Miller will be contacted for a press release, as well as Campus Notes.
Mentoring Program Update
Teresa Ray reported on the meeting last week and ideas presented for the program. The suggestions included offering new Professional Staff members a history book and brochures from the various programs on Main Campus and Continuing Education Campus in a "goody" bag to inform new staff members and employees. Another idea included a check list of the things that Professional Staff need to know. Teresa will be sending an email for those wishing to help in assembling packets for the program. It was also suggested that in order to distribute the load and establish initial contact, two or three team members would assist each other and could provide a group lunch. The Mentoring Program team members assisting in the program include: Sandie Loyer, Karen Less, Wanda Horvath, Doug Allen, Teresa Biggs, Mary Miller, Sallie Neville-Merritt, Anne Williams, Donna Trado, and Teresa Ray.
Professional Development Committee
President Anne sent an email receiving no response to recruit a PSA member to serve on the Professional Development Committee. Previously Wanda Barker had contacted Anne regarding a volunteer for Professional Development to serve a 3 year term on an as needed schedule either every other month or 3 times a month, depending on the schedule of the planned professional events. Sue Asp is currently serving on this committee with 1 year left to serve. The current goal of the Professional Development Committee is related to implementing the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). A quick summary of QEP focuses student learning outcomes on communication, critical thinking, and technical skills. PSA members Doug Allan and Anne Williams are helping with the QEP Committee.
2003-2004 Priorities: The 2003-2004 goals are listed on the website at this link.
Notes from Administrative Council Meeting
President Anne noted that the Trustees met last week and it is uncertain as to the percentage of raise amount, however, Dr. Lane expects to be able to make an announcement within 2 weeks. When granted, PSA will send a letter of acknowledgment and thankfulness. All PSA members are encouraged to show their gratitude to all those involved in making these raises possible.
Other Business
It was mentioned for all PSA members to continue brainstorming ways to improve CVCC and the Professional Staff Association. Any suggestions can be presented in the general meetings or emailed to PSA officers.
Other business noted was to e-mail names of those professionals eligible for membership in the PSA organization as an ongoing recruitment and involvement tool. Please continue to encourage and invite fellow non-active members and new, non-members into the Professional Staff Association.
Next Meeting: Monday, October 25, 2004, Room 947, East Campus at 2:30pm
The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Frye
Secretary-Treasurer
