Untouchables 1964 Football Team

Catawba Valley Community College recently honored the 1964 Untouchables Ridgeview High School football team during its annual Black History Celebration.

The Ridgeview Panthers went 12-0 in 1964, winning the Western Class AA championship for black schools that season. A winning season was impressive enough, but another sports stat keeps the conversation going more than 54 years later: the Panthers scored 446 points that season. Their opponents? Zero.

Another project by CVCC honoring The Untouchables team is under way. History professor Richard Eller is developing a documentary chronicling the team’s 1964 journey.

Untouchables team members were presented a medallion to recognize their winning season. The custom designed medallions were created by the college’s Computer Integrated Machining program faculty member Steven Rhoads.
