CVCC Music Student Wins National Competition
Catawba Valley Community College music student Corey Knighton recently won first place in the Lower College Music Theatre Men’s category of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition held at St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
In order to qualify to compete at the national level, Knighton won first place in the NATS Mid-Atlantic Regional Level which was held earlier this spring at Towson University in Towson, Md.
At the national competition, Knighton competed against 14 other semi-finalists from across the United States who earned eligibility. Competitors in the Lower College Music Theatre Men’s category were from Elon University, University of Missouri, Texas State University, Oregon State University, Oklahoma City University and others.
NATS is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world. NATS awards are among the most prestigious awards granted to undergraduate vocalists.
