Multicultural Affairs Staffers Attend NCORE
Members of Catawba Valley Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs recently attended the Annual National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education held in New Orleans.
Staff members attending include Steve Hunt, executive director; Ron Carson, Minority Males on the Move coordinator; and Erika Tiscareno Valesco, administrative assistant.
NCORE is the leading and most comprehensive national forum on issues of race and ethnicity in American higher education. Programming addresses important ongoing and emerging racial, ethnic and sovereignty social justice issues pertaining to the American system of higher education.
Keynote speakers included Joy DeGruy, author of “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome - America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing,” Symone D. Sanders, a strategist who rose to prominence during her tenure as the national press secretary for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, and nationally-acclaimed activist-scholar, practitioner, and educator Dr. Michael Benitez, Jr.
