Optimizing improves search performance and accuracy. You can optimize the collection for the current subsite "on demand" by expanding Actions in the left panel of the Subsite Administration dashboard and clicking Optimize Search Collection.
If you have more than one server supporting search, the Optimize Search Collection - Choose Servers dialog displays for choosing collections to optimize. Once you select servers, the search optimization utility scans the subsite collection and reports results, as shown below.
Site administrators can centrally optimize multiple collections at the site level through Manage Search Collections.
