CVCC Attends SkillsUSA Nationals, Takes Home “Gold Chapter”, “Outstanding Chapter”, and Other Titles

3 CVCC students stand onstage to receive Gold Medals during the National SkillsUSA Conference

ATLANTA, GA—It has been another record year for the Catawba Valley Community College SkillsUSA Chapter, which took home more than 6 gold or silver medals during the 2024 National Championships.

The SkillsUSA National Championship occurred in Atlanta, GA and ran from June 24th-June 28th. Approximately 6,000 students from across the United States attended the conference to compete and display their skills in front of a large panel of judges.

In total, CVCC student competitors took home 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and several additional high-placing medals. CVCC also received “Gold Chapter of Distinction” for the eighth straight year and received the “Outstanding Chapter” Award for the eleventh year in a row.

Gold medalists included Riley Land, Dyhan Patel, Phiona Patel, & Charlotte Zimmerman (Entrepreneurship); Joselyn Galvan-Garcia, Lauren Land, & Makala Pitman (Outstanding Chapter); and Jessica Frierson, Jennifer Schumacher, & Gracie Zazzi (Promotional Bulletin Board).

Silver medalists included Joseph Fullen (Internet of Things) and Ella Ikerd (Screen Printing).

Other top finishes included Rylan Johnson & Jacky Lam (4th place, Robotics: Urban Search & Rescue); Christopher Galan-Duran (5th place, Medical Math); Piper Strong (6th place, Job Skill Demo – Open); Jadon Spencer (6th place, Marine Service Technology); Suzanna Smart (7th place, Pin Design); Stella Hughes (7th place, T-Shirt Design); Lydia Owens (8th place, Photography); Barrett Rhoney (Electrical Construction Wiring); and Xavier Springs (Prepared Speech).
