Add Mapping - Share State

Access this dialog by clicking the Add Mapping link in the Shared Database Configuration dialog. Use this dialog to create new device mappings for a selected server.

Not Shared - Each server in the cluster maintains a local copy of all files on this device. For unshared devices, CommonSpot automatically copies all file changes from the Authoring server to all Read-Only servers in the cluster. Each server must have at least one unshared device to allow server-specific content to be stored. Minimally, this content is the identification information for the individual server in the cluster.
Shared - All servers in the cluster use a single copy of this device. Only one copy of the data is maintained for the entire cluster. Use of shared devices in a cluster can reduce authoring overhead and simplify cluster maintenance, but use of this strategy creates a second "single point of failure" scenario (the database being the first), which can make failure recovery more difficult.

After selecting the type of device mapping, click Next to display the Connection Type dialog.
