Captcha Field Settings

CommonSpot uses version 2 of the open source reCAPTCHA implementation supported by Google. When added to Simple Forms, fields generated through this JavaScript/Web services API protect against automated abuse of your site (such as spam or bad registrations) by requiring verifications that only humans can perform, such as correctly copying characters displayed in an image or captured in audio.

Use this dialog to view or change themes for Captcha fields enabled in Simple Forms and to register with reCAPTCHA to enable this functionality.

Please Note: CommonSpot pages can have only one Captcha instance. Pages containing more than one simple form can have only one Captcha field.

Access Captcha Field Settings by expanding the Authoring Tools option in the Site Administration left panel. Complete the following fields:

Theme: By default CommonSpot renders the Light theme, as shown above. Pick from the dropdown to select from the standard Light or Dark themes.

Error Message: Defaults to the message shown in the screen shot image above. Enter text (up to 255 characters) to display when content entered to the Captcha field does not match the Captcha image or audio.

New in 2017: CommonSpot 10.5 uses version 2 of the reCAPTCHA project, which is much more advanced, and easier for site visitors in most cases. This REQUIRES new Captcha keys, even if you use the same account as before. Note also that reCAPTCHA no longer supports universal keys that will work for all domains, so whether you were using your own private keys or not before, you must obtain new keys now, and enter them into Site Admin > Authoring Tools > Captcha Field Settings.

If keys are missing, the Captcha interface will not appear, and forms configured to use it will NOT be able to submit without Captcha verification. CommonSpot will log an error when the form is rendered or submitted.

If the Site Key is preset but invalid, the Captcha interface will show an error message, and forms configured with a Captcha field will not be able to submit.

If the Secret Key is present but invalid, the Captcha interface will appear normally, but verification will fail, and forms configured with a Captcha field will not be able to submit.

Other Captcha settings are different now too, because v2 supports different configuration options than v1 did. For these reasons, upgrading to 10.5 will erase all your Captcha settings, providing only default values. At minimum, you need to enter new keys.
