On the evening of Tuesday, February 25, Catawba Valley Community College hosted its 22nd Annual Black History Celebration. College faculty, staff, and students, along with several members of the Catawba County community, gathered in the halls of the CVCC East Wing for the ceremony. This year, the college recognized Phenomenal Women of Color for their impactful contributions to the community, honoring Janie Connor, Felicia Culbreath-Setzer, and Dr. Mary Hemphill.

Hosts for the evening included Dr. Felicia Simmons, Vice President for College Access and Engagement; Dr. Johnny Scott, Community Liaison, Student Access and Engagement; Sarah Joyner, Coordinator of Student Life/Student Ambassador; and Ron Carson, Coordinator, Office of Student Access and Engagement.

“Tonight, we honor the resilience, leadership, and legacy of phenomenal women who have shaped our communities through their dedication and service,” said Dr. Felicia Simmons. “Their impact is woven into the fabric of our society, inspiring future generations to lead, uplift, and create lasting change.”

CVCC wishes to congratulate every honoree who received the Black History Award this year.
