Two students walk down a brightly lit hallway at Catawba Valley Community College, smiling and engaged in conversation. One wears a gray vest and carries a lanyard, while the other wears a colorful windbreaker jacket. Backpacks and a rolled-up poster are visible on the floor to the right, and several other students walk in the background. The hallway has beige walls, white ceiling tiles, and classroom doors along both sides.

Financial Aid

How to Pay for College

CVCC School Code: 005318

The most important step in applying for financial aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 each year.

To complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA, students should use their and/or their parents’ 2021 tax information.

Note: There is NO charge associated with submitting the FAFSA. It is a FREE application. If students have questions, contact The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, or the Federal Student Aid Agency at (800) 433-3243.

Find and apply for Scholarships. Start researching early, meet deadlines, and you may be on your way to scholarship success.

The Business Office provides information about current tuition, collects payments, and helps set up payment plans.

Federal Work-Study provides need-based employment to eligible students.

CVCC is an excellent choice for military service members, veterans, and their spouses and independents. We are proud to help coordinate VA Benefits with the student’s educational goals.

Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits

CVCC is approved for Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits. Any student wishing to use VA Benefits should contact Erin Conway, CVCC VA Certifying Official, to determine if your program of study is approved.

Alternative educational loans are non-federal loans offered through third-party sources to assist with the cost of your education. CVCC is required to certify these loans to ensure that the loan amount does not exceed the cost of attendance. If a student decides that an alternative loan is right for them, they may borrow from any lender that they choose. When choosing a lender for an alternative loan, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid encourages students to consider the following factors:
  • Loan costs (interest rates and fees)
  • Borrower benefits and discounts
  • Customer service

Financial aid funds will be disbursed to student accounts using the schedule listed below, provided all outstanding financial aid requirements have been met. Financial aid funds are first applied to student charges (tuition, fees, books charged, etc.). If a remaining balance exists, a refund (except work-study) will be sent to the student’s selected refund preference with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc. For more information about BankMobile Disbursements, visit the BankMobile Disbursements Refund Choices.

The Child Care Assistance Program serves student-parents who need assistance paying for child care costs in order to attend Catawba Valley Community College.
