Advanced Site Search

CommonSpot provides robust Site Search capabilities through Site Administration.

These functions include the following:

Internal Search Engine - CommonSpot supports the open source Solr search engine for full-text search queries and includes an interface for installing the latest version of the Solr search engine and using it natively, for optimal search performance. See the CommonSpot Search Settings in the Configuration section of the Server Administration dashboard. You can also use other search engines by implementing CommonSpot’s pluggable search engine interface.
Search Forms and Search Results - Site search functionality is exposed to site visitors in the form of Search Forms and Search Results pages. Sites can have as many search forms and search results pages as needed. You can have a main search page, as well as separate pages for searching specific subsites to return results specific content. See Search Form Element and Search Results Element in the Elements Reference for more information.
Site Search Options - Efficiently create and manage full-text search collections, configure search history settings, view internal search analytics and search history, and set up "Featured" results for selected search terms. Site Search section applies to internal searches using the CommonSpot Search and Search Results elements only. Full-Text Search Collections - Each CommonSpot site can have one or more full-text search collections to index site content. You can optionally designate specific subsites and/or custom elements to index for faster more relevant search results. Whenever new changes are published on a page, as long as full-text search indexing is enabled for the site/subsite, and the page configuration does not exclude it from indexing, CommonSpot automatically indexes the entire page through the available search engine. CommonSpot site administrators create and manage collections, as appropriate, and assign sites and subsites to specified collections. See Manage Full-Text Search Collections in the Site Search section of the Site Administration dashboard or the Search menu option under the Configuration section within Subsite Administration.
Internal Search Analytics - CommonSpot separately tracks and stores analytics for each search results page, including the keywords (or keyword phrases) searched for, which items were clicked within the results set, and search term position within search results. Use the Search Summary and Search History reports in Site Administration to get a full understanding of how your visitors use your internal search capabilities. See Search Summary and Search History.
Featured Search Results - In order to better control which search results visitors click, you can register "Featured" search results for specific keywords or keyword phrases, and display those results at the top of the results list. See Manage Featured Search Results.
