Select Tree

After inserting the Tree Element, choosing Select Tree from the Element menu displays a set of methods for choosing trees defined for your site. Available trees are defined through the Site Administration Manage Trees function. (See Trees and Manage Tree Types in the Administrator's Reference for more information.)

This set of methods is designed to logically limit or expand your choices, based on the design of your site and the set of available trees. You can select from all available, "auto-select" from trees preconfigured to match subsite hierarchies, or create a placeholder for choosing a tree at later time. This option is useful for creating templates that include trees.

Once you make a tree selection (and you have modification rights) you can further customize the tree for your purposes by adding, removing or changing the location of tree nodes.

Choose from the following options:

Choose a specific tree

This option displays all available trees. Use this option to display the same tree every time the containing page or template is invoked.

Select a tree and then click the Choose button to select a Starting Node - the starting point for the nodes included in your specific tree. CommonSpot displays the selected node and returns a tree with all the nodes below the node you select.

Use the Clear button to remove existing start nodes.

Choose a tree dynamically, based on the current subsite

This option returns predefined trees bound to subsites, relative to the subsite location of the current page. CommonSpot moves up the subsite hierarchy from the current page and returns the first tree found. If no match exists, nothing is displayed. See Tree Subsite Bindings in the Administrator's Reference for details. Use this method to dynamically generate trees that mirror the subsite structure one or more levels above the current page.

None

Defines this Element as a Tree, but assigns no attributes. Use this to create Tree placeholders for pages or templates.

Click Save to keep your changes or Cancel to exit without saving. Once created, you can modify tree display. Click Edit Tree from the Element menu.
