CVCC Board of Trustees Welcomes New, Returning Appointees

CVCC President Garrett Hinshaw stands with new/returning appointees—Russ Perkins, Sherry Butler, Kimberly Wallace, and Emely Tiscareno.

HICKORY, N.C.—On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, the Catawba Valley Community College Board of Trustees swore in new appointees and welcomed returning appointees to serve on the Board.

Sherry Butler, who will serve as Board Chair, was reappointed by the NC House of Representatives.     

John R. “Russ” Perkins is new to the board and was appointed by the Catawba County Commissioners. Perkins is a lifelong resident of Catawba County who graduated from Hickory High School and then matriculated at Clemson University, where he earned a degree in Textile Chemistry. Russ has served as a County Commissioner and in Director or Trustee roles on the Board of Social Services, the Mental Health Board, The Chamber of Catawba County, the Catawba County Historical Association, the United Arts Council of Catawba County, and Partners Health Management.

Kimberly Wallace, who is returning to the CVCC Board of Trustees after a district move, was reappointed by the NC Senate. Wallace is a native of Catawba County who graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1997. She received her BS in Marketing from Clemson University in 2000, graduating Cum Laude. She began her career working for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Greenville, SC, while also taking classes for her MBA, which she received in 2004. That same year, she moved back to Catawba County to work in the family business, Wallace Printing, where she is currently the Vice-President. Wallace was one of the first women to be a board member for Printing Industries of the Carolinas (PICA).

CVCC Student Government Association (SGA) President, Emely Tiscareno, was sworn in to serve as a non-voting board member by virtue of the SGA Office.
