Catawba Valley Community College Honors Academic Excellence at Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony
The Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Beta Eta Delta, proudly recognized its newest class of inductees during an official ceremony held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tarlton Complex on CVCC’s main campus.

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Beta Eta Delta, proudly recognized its newest class of inductees during an official ceremony held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tarlton Complex on CVCC’s main campus.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the premier honor society for students at associate degree-granting colleges, celebrating academic excellence and fostering scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. With a presence at nearly every community college across the United States, PTK offers exclusive scholarship and leadership opportunities for its members. Students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered for membership.
During the ceremony, Dr. David Fonseca, Associate Dean of General Education, delivered a keynote address that emphasized the importance of academic achievement, personal growth, and leadership development.
“As a Phi Theta Kappa Adviser, it has been truly an honor working with our students to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals” states April Harper, Phi Theta Kappa adviser and alumna of the organization. “I recognize the benefit of being an active member. I encourage all students to join when they are provided a membership at the community college and university level. Our goal is to develop leaders who transition to their universities obtaining scholarship and leadership opportunities within their career fields.”
