Catawba Valley Community College accounting student Nathalie Sergeevna Lykova became the latest recipients of the CVCC School of Workforce Development and the Arts (WDA) and the CVCC Foundation’s student incentive funding on Wednesday, March 24.

The award will count toward Summer and Fall 2021 tuition and fees for Lykova as she pursues an accounting degree in the School of WDA.

“We are so fortunate to have Nathalie Lykova as an accounting student in the School of Workforce Development and the Arts,” said Dr. Jeffrey Penley, CVCC School of WDA Senior Professor and Student Advocate. “Nathalie is originally from Russia, and she comes to us in pursuit of the ‘American Dream.’ In fact, she is personification of the ‘American Dream.’ Nathalie is intelligent. She is articulate. She is professionally-minded, and she is motivated. Nathalie knows in a real way that success in one’s career and life begins and ends with hard work and determination. I have every bit of confidence that Nathalie will have a very successful accounting career. Hopefully, when she becomes an accountant, Nathalie will choose to practice her profession right here in Catawba County.”

Lykova was nominated for the award by Christy Lefevers, CVCC Senior Professor of Accounting and Department Head for Business Adminstration.

“Nathalie is an exceptional student,” Lefevers said. “She consistently demonstrates professionalism and possesses a dedicated work ethic. She is courageous and goal oriented. I am privileged to support Nathalie as she achieves her dreams.”

School of WDA Dean Gary Muller was very impressed with Lykova during his first meeting with her.

“”We are so glad that Nathalie has chosen CVCC as her institution of higher learning here in the United States, as she adds so very much to the academic culture of our school,” Muller said. “Nathalie has earned this award, and all of us in the School of Workforce Development and the Arts are proud to celebrate this accomplishment with her.”

CVCC foundation Chairman David Sain was also impressed when he met Lykova.

“Nathalie is a very special person, with the internal drive and ambition we like to see here at Catawba Valley Community College,” Sain said. “As a former business student myself, I know full well the challenges associated with pursuing a demanding a course of study like accounting, but Nathalie seems to be a natural when it comes to numbers and the balance sheet. What a welcome addition she will be to the accounting profession, and how proud all of us will be to say that her training originated from CVCC. Nathalie will be a great leader at our school and has a superb attitude. She has a wonderful personality and will spread that throughout our student population.”
