HICKORY, N.C.– Beginning Fall 2025, Catawba Valley Community College will launch Red Hawk Ready—a new course materials model designed to increase affordability, promote equity, and ensure students are prepared on day one of class. Through an institutional partnership with Cengage, most required curriculum course materials will now be included as part of students’ tuition and delivered electronically through the college’s online learning management system (Blackboard).

The Red Hawk Ready program removes common financial and logistical barriers to learning by giving students timely access to digital textbooks and resources—without the need for additional out-of-pocket expenses. While some specialized programs may still require separate purchases for certain materials, Red Hawk Ready will serve the majority of CVCC students with a streamlined and cost-saving approach.

The program also supports CVCC’s mission to deliver exceptional instruction, promote inclusive access, and produce college-transfer and workforce-ready graduates.
