College Transfer

Catawba Valley Community College’s University Transfer programs enable students to earn an associate degree while completing general education and core coursework towards a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.

Statewide articulation agreements are in place to ensure a smooth transition.
The North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) is a statewide agreement governing the transfer of credits between North Carolina’s community colleges and its public universities. The CAA applies to the Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) degrees only.

To learn more, contact our College Transfer Enrollment Managers at [email protected] or visit the Student Services Building (2nd Floor) during our operating hours: Monday-Wednesday 8 am to 5 pm and Thursday 9 am to 5 pm.

Visit the College Foundation of North Carolina website to learn more about the universities across North Carolina.

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree is designed for students who want to transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree in one of the liberal arts disciplines – accounting, business administration, art, criminal justice, English, history, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, and others. These programs typically have fewer mathematics and science course requirements than the Associate in Science (AS) degree.

The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) is a statewide agreement governing the transfer of credit between NC community colleges and the UNC System public universities. The CAA guarantees a smooth transfer process for students. NC community college graduates with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree will have their general education requirements waived upon transfer to a UNC System institution. The CAA does not guarantee admission to a specific university.

In addition to the CAA, the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) has created an independent comprehensive articulation agreement (ICAA) that establishes seamless transfer pathways for AA and AS graduates to transfer to signatory institutions.

The Associate in Science (AS) degree is designed for students who want to transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree in fields that require strong mathematics and science backgrounds – animal science, biology, chemistry, computer science, food science, forestry, mathematics, pharmaceutical science, physics, pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, and others.
