Marine Mechanical Technology

CVCC powers Your Future on the Water

Are you fascinated by engines, electrical systems, and the power that keeps boats moving across the water? If the inner workings of engines, electronics, and propulsion systems fascinate you, then CVCC’s Marine Mechanical Technology program is the perfect fit. This program explores the advanced technologies that keep today’s boats operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

When you study Marine Mechanical Technology at CVCC, you’ll gain foundational knowledge and hands-on experience with high-performance engines, modern propulsion systems, marine electrical components, and today’s most widely used diagnostic tools. Students train directly on real marine engines while preparing for the Mercury Marine Outboard Certification Exam which covers Digital Throttle & Shift, G3 diagnostic systems, SmartCraft technologies, and additional outboard specialties. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete Yamaha’s Maintenance Certification Program, earning up to four credentials in Inline, V-Engine, Mid-Range, and Portable systems.

Graduates are prepared for careers such as Marine Service Technician, Outboard Engine Mechanic, or Marine Electrical Technician. As boating and outdoor recreation continue to grow across North Carolina, skilled marine technicians can expect strong job stability, competitive salaries, and advancement opportunities as they gain brand certifications and real-world experience. CVCC’s Marine Mechanical Technology program provides a direct path into a rewarding, high-demand technical career centered on hands-on learning and industry-aligned training.

Comprehensive Articulation Agreement

The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) allows a student who earns the Associate degree with no grade lower than a “C” to be guaranteed admission to at least one of the UNC system schools as a Junior ;and make a smooth transition for maximum credit transfer.

Some Associate in Applied Science degrees may transfer in full or in part to a four-year school. CVCC has agreements with certain schools to accept the AAS degree in a 2 + 2 arrangement (subject to change).

Important Note:

  • As always, it is imperative that a student at CVCC should be in full conversation with the senior school before selecting and completing a program of study at CVCC.

The hands-on training and certifications opened doors I didn’t even know existed. I feel truly prepared for a career in the marine industry.
