Healthcare Management Technology program prepares individuals for employment in healthcare business and financial operations.
Healthcare is a constantly changing field, especially when dealing with insurance reimbursement, managed care, fee schedules, patient expectations, and governmental changes. There is a tremendous need for people trained in this specialty. Most graduates are eligible for supervisory or management positions within a few years after gaining experience. The Healthcare Management Technology (HMT) program prepares you to work in or manage these dynamic business office responsibilities and new reimbursement methods. Healthcare management is a career choice with exciting challenges, teaching graduates how to increase profitability, code and process insurance, and provide excellent customer (patient) service.

The Associate of Applied Science program offers a 320-hour work-based learning opportunity. In the last semester, students work with Ms. Ford and Ms. Richard to select the best facility for their educational experience. The combination of their degree and healthcare experience leads to better career placement.

Communication Skills | HMT students should possess written and verbal communication skills to permit effective interaction with others. | Student must be able to write job descriptions and query physician practice management program to create and explain written reports containing insurance reimbursement, CPT codes, and financial indicators. |
Visual Skills | HMT students shall possess visual acuity sufficient to read and access medical information in a variety of media (i.e., paper records, computerized data) | Student shall be able to read a patient’s insurance card, demographics on a computer and a provider appointment list in order to be able to serve the patient. |
Mobility | HMT students shall possess sufficient mobility to maneuver in office areas. | Student must be able to move around throughout work spaces to complete typical office functions. |
