Comments: The CVCC Nurse Aide Program is in compliance with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), providing recognized educational preparation to sit for NA I testing through Credentia and be placed on the NCDHHS registry. The North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON), overseas Nurse Aide II registry. Both agencies, NCBON & NCDHHS have reciprocity rules allowing students holding NA I or II credentials to apply and be recognized to practice in North Carolina. Most other states also have reciprocity agreements once a student holds NA I or II credentials. However, many states have differing educational and testing requirements from North Carolina. Therefore, students are encouraged to discuss NA I and II testing with the agency responsible for placing them on the registry within the state of interest.

Comments: The CVCC Nursing Program is in compliance with Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) & the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON), providing recognized educational preparation to sit for the NCLEX-RN, a national exam for Registered Nurse Licensure. The North Carolina Board of Nursing, grants licensure and participates in the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure (ICNL) allowing for Nurses licensed in the state of North Carolina the privilege to work in other Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) States (as designated in this report). Regulations require a change of residency process be completed within 60 days of relocation to comply with the ICNL & State Board’s of Nursing. Other non-compact states may have pathways to licensure based on student’s academic preparation and possession of an unencumbered NC Registered Nurse License, however the nurse may not work in those states until the Board of Nursing grants licensure by endorsement or other means. Pending* States have passed compact licensure, but are awaiting implementation.

Comments: Candidates completing the Respiratory Therapy program at CVCC are eligible to sit for the NBRC board examinations and, upon successful completion, are awarded a nationally recognized credential (CRT or RRT). However, credentialing alone does not authorize the individual to practice. State licensure—such as that issued by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB)—is required to legally practice respiratory care. Each state has its own licensure board and regulations. CVCC graduates must apply for licensure in the state in which they intend to work.
The Respiratory Therapy program at CVCC meets the educational requirements for licensure in North Carolina, where the program is currently offered. Currently, the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) requires in-state licensure for practice.
However, as of 2025, NCRCB has expressed interest in participating in the proposed Interstate Respiratory Therapy Licensure Compact, which, once enacted, would allow licensed respiratory therapists to practice across participating states without obtaining additional state-specific licenses. This compact is currently under development and not yet active.
CVCC will continue to monitor updates related to multi-state licensure and revise disclosures accordingly once compact participation becomes law.
