From cake decorating and food preservation to gourmet treats for your dog, CVCC offers a cooking class for a wide variety of interests.
Naked Cake Decorating
In this fun-filled class, we will learn the basics of leveling a cake, ice and un-ice and even try embellishing some simple fondant flowers, with piped leaves and dots. Each student will need to bring a cake layer to each class, beginning the second night of class, to practice on, however, that will be discussed at the first-class meeting. A small cake kit is included in the price of the class. The instructor will teach each student how to design a naked cake, a "Happy Little Frog" cake and learn how to make floral cupcakes. Come and enjoy the fun!
Beginning Cake Decorating
We will start with the most basic of cakes and work our way up to a simple anti-gravity cake. Oh yes!! You can do it! The cost of the class includes a kit which you will receive on the first night of class. You will be set to start your journey to cake decorating. We will have fun, fellowship, and eat lots of cake!
Cake Decorating-Advanced
This class is for students who have mastered the basic buttercream class, know how to successfully level, torte and ice a cake, and are ready for the next level of decorating skills. This class will cover customized cake design, tall cakes, unicorn cakes (and their cousins), stacked cakes, floral, painting with buttercream and more! There will be supplies needed for this class, which can be forwarded to you at the time of registration. Pre-requisite: Buttercream 102 or equivalent knowledge.Note: No class November 23, 2020 for Thanksgiving holiday.
Food for Life: Kickstart Your Health: The Power of a Plant-Based Diet
This class focuses on kickstarting your health utilizing a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet. A diet on whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits can help individuals lose weight and prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The class includes cooking demonstration and sampling.
Food Preservation
This three-day class covers food preservation by canning and dehydration. Topics will include pressure and water bath canning and food preservation by dehydration. Canning times, supplies, recipes, and types of foods that can be canned and dehydrated will be discussed along with demonstrations on food preparation.
Homemade Dog Food and Specialty Treats
Is your dog a picky eater? Well, your pup won’t be able to resist these yummy homemade dog food recipes. They are well-balanced to meet your dog’s nutritional needs and versatile to allow for allergies, dislikes, or seasonal issues. Your pup will think they are Royalty when they are served this for a meal! We will also explore treats that will not only taste good but serve a purpose, such as: flea fighting, allergy and itching, bad breath, inflammation/joints and grain-free options. If you are looking for natural ways to help your pet, then you are “barking up the right tree” with this class! Your pet will “woof” down these treats and “shake” your hand for “being and good boy/girl” and learning how to make these for them. In the words of my pet: “Bow Wow!”
Intro to Fondant, Gum Paste, and Gum Paste Flowers
Students will learn and develop skills working with fondant and gumpaste. Skills learned will include: how to cover a cake with fondant, make embossed fondant cupcakes toppers, and how to paint on fondant. We will then start out making simple flowers such as the calla lily, carnation, daisy, and rose, as well as the calax and leaves. Later in the course, we will progress into more advanced gumpaste floral techniques such as the Peony, succulents, and more. This course required attention to detail but the results will leave you beautiful, life-like looking floral creations that will make any cake look amazing!
scratch the box - Beginning cooking
Are you tired of going out to eat for every meal? Or eating or cooking from packaged convenience food items? Come to "Scratch the Box", a 6-week class that teaches the basics of cooking and how to cook simple items that many use straight from a prepackaged box, with many unknown ingredients and chemicals. There are so many easy recipes that we will be learning to make without mixes or boxes such as muffins, mashed potatoes, cake or brownies, cornbread, pancakes or waffles, pizza, cinnamon rolls, and the list continues! Come join us as we have so much fun while learning basic skills that will certainly impress any friend or family member!
O Christmas Tree-How Yummy are Your Branches!
In this fun-filled workshop, this class will teach you how to turn simple cupcakes into festive works of art. You will learn how to customize beautiful Christmas trees to match any décor and you can let your artistic side flow as you decide how you want to decorate your trees. You will also learn how to pipe cupcake wreaths so you can make any Christmas table turn into magic! Come and have some holiday fun!!
Holiday Make and Take Christmas Cupcakes or Cake
In this one-day class, students will learn how to turn simple cupcakes or cakes into festive works of art. By using just a few simple techniques, you will be able to make beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes for your holiday gathering. Each student will be provided with four cupcakes or a 6” single cake layer to decorate. Students will choose to complete either a Happy Face Snowman or a Holiday wreath. Come to this fun-filled class and start getting into the holiday spirit!
