Photographic Technology

Do you have an eye for detail and a passion for storytelling through images? If you’re interested in exploring the art of photography and digital imaging, CVCC’s Photographic Technology program will equip you with the skills needed to bring your creative visions to life. Gain hands-on experience in camera operation, lighting, and photojournalism while preparing for a rewarding career in photography.

When you study Photographic Technology at CVCC, you’ll learn the fundamental techniques of camera operation, lighting, and digital imaging. The curriculum offers a well-rounded approach, covering various aspects of photography, including portraiture, commercial, documentary, fine art, and photojournalism.
Students will create personalized portfolios based on their career interests, preparing them to enter the workforce or continue their education in the photography field. Through collaboration with local community partners and publications, students gain real-world experience while building their portfolios.

Photographic Technology students will compete in SkillsUSA, an organization that holds state and national competitions to develop technical, academic, and employability skills. The CVCC photography students have won first place Photography Post-Secondary (PS) from 2013-2019 during state competition and has won third place in Nationals in 2014. Our students have also won second place in 2018 and first place in 2019 in PS Digital Cinema Productions during the state competition.
