CVCC’s Turfgrass Management program gave me the skills and confidence to work on high-quality athletic fields and start a career doing what I love outdoors.
Turfgrass Management Technology
Do you have a passion for the outdoors and maintaining beautiful landscapes? If you’re interested in managing and nurturing turfgrass for lawns, golf courses, parks, and recreational grounds, CVCC’s Turfgrass Management program will equip you with the knowledge and hands-on experience to stand out in this growing field.
When you study Turfgrass Management at CVCC, you’ll learn how to select, establish, and maintain the right grasses for different landscapes, including golf courses, parks, and sports complexes. Gain expertise in controlling pests, diseases, and weeds while focusing on sustainable plant management and turfgrass maintenance. This program prepares you for real-world work experiences, such as co-op opportunities during the summer where you’ll work at golf courses or other approved recreational facilities.
The curriculum covers plant identification, pest management, plant and soil science, as well as sustainable plant production and management, landscaping, and the operation of horticulture businesses. You’ll receive hands-on training to prepare you for a range of positions, including lawn care, golf course maintenance, sports complex management, and landscape operations. Students should also be prepared to take the North Carolina Pesticide Applicator’s Examination and/or the North Carolina Certified Plant Professional Examination.
You’ll also have the opportunity to further your education at a four-year institution, such as Penn State University, with a seamless transfer pathway. CVCC and PSU have developed an articulation agreement that allows many of the CVCC Turfgrass courses and general education courses to transfer to PSU. Graduates of CVCC’s Turfgrass program may be able to finish a bachelor’s degree at PSU in Turfgrass Management in two more years via their World Campus online. Visit Penn State University to learn more.
